We are very excited to share with you photos of the dolphins, whales, and other wildlife found here in Drake Bay. Upon arriving to Drake Bay in December 1998, we had no idea of the amounts of cetaceans we would find here, over 25 species of dolphins and whales!! We have been constantly surprised by the variety and numbers of cetaceans this area holds. Every day brings a new adventure, we never know what we are going to see! For this reason we have become a non-profit foundation, Fundacion Vida Marina in order to research and protect the cetaceans in this incredibly rich area. Our main goal is to create an International Marine Sanctuary in the waters surrounding the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica. Our commitment to protect this area is strong. We are photographing and recording data to monitor and indentify the species found here. With this information, we can prove how teeming this area is in cetacea, including being the birthing grounds for Humpback Whales and many other species. On our tours we see PanTropical Spotted Dolphins, Rough Tooth Dolphins, Spinner Dolphins, Common Dolphins, Bottlenose Dolphins, Risso Dolphins, Humpback Whales, Pilot Whales, Orcas, Psuedo Orcas, Melon-Headed Whales, Sei Whales, Fin Whales, Brydes Whales, Cuvier's Beaked Whales, and the incredible Unidentified (Cloudback) Beaked Whales. In April of 2000, we rescued a dolphin, whom we named Amazing Grace, who was trying to beach herself. Her photos are included here. Since Drake Bay is located in the most biologically intense place on earth, we also have the honor of encountering monkeys, toucans, macaws, iguanas, hundreds of species of birds and so much more.
